What are the commercial aplications for micarta? Can you buy it from anywhere other than knife suppliers? Thanks Steve |

Steve, I don't know what all it's used for, but it is used for elctrical aplications as an insulator. I got a large piece of natural canvas from a friend who got it from an electrical motor repairman. I don't use that much of one kind, so I generaly just order a small sheat from the supply houses. But there are some other suppliers, check in the suppliers listing in the supply forums. |

Check out Wayne Goddard's article on Micarta in the May issue of Blade. He lists all available types, composition, and sources. |

Nope- I just got my copy in the mail yesterday, so I assume it's on the news stands. |

It is used by machine shops and for industrial applications, like gears and such, requires only water to lubricate. There is a place in Los Angeles, CA that has been selling micarta for all applications since 1924. They have so many different types of Micarta, it is mind boggling. Call Johnston Plastics or Cadillac Plastics Either one can get it for you but the price of a full sheet is rather high. |
