Auction Knife

I've been asked by the University of Tennessee at Martin, TN to provide a knife to be auctioned off to benefit their scholarship fund.

I'm going to make a hunting knife for them.

Is anyone else interested in making something for them?

The auction date is April 18, 2009.

If I get my knife done in time, maybe someone who makes leather sheaths would be interested in providing the sheath for my knife?

I'll provide all the details for anyone else who is interested.

I donate plenty, but if you need any help...I'm here for you Bud.
If you need a sheath, I'd be honored to make it. Call anytime Don.

On a personal note:
I am lifting you and your wife in prayer everyday Don. I hope you get better real soon.
ANYTHING you need, please call. God bless you today, and every day my friend.
Love ya, Geno

Hi, Gene.

I know you have more than enough on your plate, so I'll just make a Kydex sheath for it. It'll be a very plain old simple user anyway, so a kydex sheath will be enough. A leather sheath will probably look out of place. I'm just sending a knife that will make the winner a great outdoor user, not something to look good.

Thanks for the offer and the prayers, my very good friend.

Vaya con Dios, mi Amigo.

scholarships

I raised a bunch of kids on knifemaker pay and could not send them to college.
Two of my girls went on scholarships and I support scholarship programs when I can.

It is a shame when sharp minds can not be educated.

If a couple of hours making a sheath helps a student carry on....it is worth it.

If everyone spent a couple hours helping each other...we would live in a better world
A sheath is a tiny donation but could make the difference in someone else's life.
I'd be happy to do it, not just to help you Don, but to do my part to pay back my part too.
Go with God my friend. Peace and joy to you and yours today.
Geno

So be it then, Gene. I'll probably send the knife within a few days. As I said, it's a very simple knife, a user, nothing fancy, so it needs a very plain and simple sheath.

Thank you.

A long, long time ago I made leather sheaths. Bought the leather a side at a time. Sewing by hand took so long though, it took nearly as long to make the sheath as it did to make the knife. I gave away all my leather and tools because I preferred to spend my time making knives.

I'll ship the knife to you in a kydex sheath that takes about 30 minutes for me to make. That way he'll have two sheaths for it.

UTM is where I did my first two years of college and it's only 15 minutes from my hometown. Nice quiet campus with a small-town feel.

It'd be neat to make something for this but I've got 4 knives to finish in the next two months....and I typically do only 3-4 knives a year!

Good luck!

Gene, i just looked at the date of the auction event again and it's April 18th. there's not enough time for me to get it finished, send it to you, make the sheath, and get it there before the auction.

Thanks a bunch for offering, but it will take several more days for me to finish it.You're off the hook. The kydex sheath will be sufficient.
