CF as frame lock?

Is it possible to heat carbon fiber and bend it to make a liner lock? I know the tip would prob need to have metal in it so it wont ware out from making contact to the blade. If not are there any other composites that would do the job? G10? Acrylic?

Your best bet for the lock is titanium. You could use a 0.040-0.060 titanium liner with a CF or G10 scale over that. Or you could use thicker titanium, say 0.080 or 0.090, to make a frame lock and use the CF or G10 as the frame on the other side.

I haven't tried it, but I have seen one with carbon fiber and a G10 handle slabs and the ti lock was inserted into a dovetailed slot in the handle material. For the life of me I can't remember the maker's name, but he makes the ATCK and is famous for his liner locks.

That's him, don't know why I couldn't remember his name, but then some days I have trouble remembering my name. He's got a great book out on the tactical liner lock.

I know the thread is a little bit old, but I just signed up on the forum, so ...

A lock can be made in the way described above but with CF or G10 handles, the inlaid spring should be secured with screws, not just dovetailed, as these materials may chip under pressure. All according to Bob Terzuola. I have made a few knives with CF handles where I have lenghtened the spring so it can be secured to the steel back spacer with screws instead. The handle slabs are obviusly milled out to accomodate the spring but does nothing to hold it. This makes a very light and slim yet strong knife.
With a metal handle the spring can be dovetailed without any screws holding it.
