Anyone know anything about this one

Hello,
A friend of mine was given an old knife. It has stamped on the blade
W. Clauberg Solingen Germany. There is a makers mark that looks like a shield with an arc trailing from it. It also has the number 7001 stamed in to the oposite side from the makers mark. I know that they made civil war era swords but are they still in business??? or could this be a blade from that era maybe?

The blade in particular looks like a bird hunting knife except it has a deer hoof and ankle for a handle. The guard is formed into the blade. I am sorry I do not have a picture to show you if needed I will see what I can do. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

According to Levine's Guide, Clauberg was in business from 1810 to 1996. In the end, it was a subsidiary of Anton Wingen.

Sounds like you have a Nicker Knife. A Bavarian pattern also called a gent and or sock knife as it was made to be worn in the sock or nickers. Does it resemble these except for the deer foot?
