Spring Heat...

A friend told me that to use a larger slip joint he suggested the spring be heat treated to at least 50. I am not sure just how to do that. More heat? I usually do ATS at 1150 for 2X2. Any help on this?

In my kiln,I austinize at 1950,then 2X2 at 1135F,gives me an Rc of 47-48,if you want 50 try 1125F
