canadian source for fire brick
ok, so i have not been very diligent with my knife making. i have a half dozen knives started, but none to the HT point yet.
partly because i dont yet have a way to HT. i was going to try in a campfire, but that takes a long time to get that hot. so now i want to make a forge. just a small one though. im thinking something like this http://www.jamesriser.com/Machinery/...paneForge.html does any one know a canadian source for fire bricks like those? or alteratly a source for the fireproof liner for a coffee can forge. thanks, Joe __________________ "why is it when some one tells you there are a thousand stars in the sky you belive them, but when some one tells you there is wet paint on that bench you just have to touch it?" - Dave from work |

There must be some woodstove suppliers in your area. Id check one of them out.

Joe
Check around for a ceramics store or a kiln supplier. Annother good source is a ferrier or blacksmith supply. You want soft firebrick the brick in woodstoves is not soft and not a good insulator. Allso unless you have a masonary saw you cannot cut it. Regards Bob Last edited by Robert Mayo; 12-14-2005 at 04:53 AM. |

Try these guys. I bought all my fire brick from them. They are really good to work with and if you are building a kiln they can help big time. Steve __________________ Stephen Vanderkolff Please come on over and check out my website. http://www.vanderkolffknives.com/ Thanks |

thanks for the help guys.
i gues once i have a couple of those bricks, i just holow one out and make a hole for the propane torch. is there any thing more to it than that? (other than makeing a bigger one) also, im pretty sure a normal propane torch will be enough heat. but if it isnt, let me know. thanks, Joe __________________ "why is it when some one tells you there are a thousand stars in the sky you belive them, but when some one tells you there is wet paint on that bench you just have to touch it?" - Dave from work |
