New primitive hunter

Its been a while since I last posted here, Thought I'd share a pic of my latest knife.

Forged close to shape from a leafspring and finished with files/sandpaper. Pewter guard and butt on a sasafrass round handle.
Comments, good or bad, are always welcome.
Hope you enjoy!

Randy

Randy that a sweet knife. Did you cast the pewter in place?

Thanks Bob. Yes the pewter was cast in place, I made a form around the area for the pewter out of cardboard and masking tape. A little rasping/filing/sanding and it was done.

Now that is very nicely done. It would look right at home at any black powder event. Exactly my favorite kind of knife

I havn't seen or heard of Sasafrass since I left Tennessee. Makes me want a cup of tea.

Nice one!

I like the "staggy" texture you put on the sassafras, too.

Thanks Chuck for changing the link into a pic I think it was you that put the idea of using the sasafrass rounds in my head. I remember my grandfather using it for tool handles and still have some files, etc. with the old handles.
This sasafrass was stabilized with nelsonite and the "staggy" look given with a hot poker from the forge... it just looked like it needed it.
Thanks again for the compliments.
