Unique source for wood

While trolling the internet today I stumbled across a site that has some unique wood for sale. Of all the sites I could have stumbled on I would never have thought of looking at a pool cue supply company to source some wood for handles. Most of the blanks they have are 1.5?x18? which should be large enough for some scales. They are not stabilized though.

I would have never thought of that. A lot of the woods I like to use are on there. Thanks for the link

It pays to look around. There are a lot of sellers out there that have exotic turning woods for sale. You just need a way to re-cut the wood. A 2X2 piece of spindle stock will give you both blocks and scales from the same stick of wood.

I will add that if your in central NC there is a place in Gibsonville, NC called the Hardwood Store that usually carries a bunch of turning blanks of all different kinds of exotic woods. It is right off of I40/85

When you're prowling the thrift stores, always check out any que sticks. Have gotten some might fine rosewoods, cocobola, zebra wood, etc. just looking. Also check out the wood carvings rack. Two very large chunks of desert ironwood - one from a carved dolphin with a broken fluke and one a "dehorned" bugling bull elk. Both substantial enough to produce several nice handles. These were all in the $2 or less category.
