Here's some Sandy Morrissey sheaths
I asked Sandy if he would make me 4 different style sheaths for 4 different style knives so I could study and copy them. He kindly said yes. He said it was OK to post pic's of them here for others to study also. The knives were a 4 piece fighter set: a dagger, a push dagger, a fighter and a sub-hilt.

Thanks Tracy -- you hit it exactly right -- lots to study there !!
Wonderful set, each sheath fits its companion just perfectly. I'm intrigued by the sub-hilt rig, the way the wrap-around conforms obviously took some real thought, even for the Master Who's the knifemaker? Amateurish, looks like something made at summer camp!
Just kidding guys, in fact theses sheaths are the antithesis of that. (and not to foget - tracy the sheaths and knives compliment each other well! nice job) Look close and notice the details - that's what separates the men from the boys so to speak. For those that don't know Sandy machine sews (after 50+ years his fingers just won't take the strain) and for anybody who thinks that's easy to do, go sit down at a stitcher sometime and try it. In fact that double seam on the loop style sheath is harder to pull off (especially looking that good) with a machine than it is by hand. Also look at his hand-boning of that sheath-perfection (although I'll bet the Grand Old Man could point out every bobble in it - of course he's probably the only one that would notice) The other thing that strikes me is how form follows function (I know you've heard it before:cool: ), but it's still true. Each of these is a different style yet they "fit" the knife and that is sometimes the hardest part in making a sheath - the decision of what style/type to make. Unembellished work as demonstrated in three of these pieces is in many ways harder to get right than highly decorated work because the decoration can "fool the eye" sort of. Not sure if I made myself clear, but hopefully everybody will take a real close look or tow or a thousand and see why Sandy can honestly post his signature with "Master" #### fine work mi amigo. __________________ Chuck Burrows Hand Crafted Leather & Frontier Knives dba Wild Rose Trading Co Durango, CO chuck@wrtcleather.com www.wrtcleather.com The beautiful sheaths created for storing the knife elevate the knife one step higher. Each of these sheaths is a study that stands on it's own. I made it a point of sending Sandy 4 completely different style knives and asked him to what ever he thought would be good. When ever I part with the knives, I'll be doing new sheaths and keeping these knowing full well they are custom fit and will never see another knife. Now I have to come up with a few more knives that are different again and send him some more so I can add to my collection.
Thanks again Sandy. |

You guys are feeding my ego!
Tracy, John,Dave, Mike, Chuck, I am glad you liked the sheaths. I enjoyed the challenge you gave me, Tracy, and I was pleased the way they turned out. The photos you posted were excellent and really amounted to a tutorial and I thank you, thank you---- Now, Tracy, you can start making sheaths and enjoy a new world of pleasure. The rest of you guys are already into the game, some for their own use and some professionally. Chuck and I are into leather for a combined ninety plus years, and believe it or not-- we still learn from you guys. For this we are grateful, but it is the friendship that emanates from the association that is the most gratifying and rewarding. Mike, you are the latest to this group, but rest assured, your position is firmly established. I consider all of you as family and #### proud to be part of it---Sandy

How did I miss this thread?
Sandy, those are stunning sheaths. I can't decide which one I like the most. I can already see a lot of little details which set them above the merely excellent Tracy, excellent knives. I really like the fighter, looks like an original take on the chute knife. Roger |
