Rich Slaughter Photo
After a long absence due to frustrations with computer connections, too much work and too little time, plus New Hampshire floods, dsl finally arrived in our rural area, and I would like to share a few great photos taken by Rich Slaughter, starting with this new model.
It is titled Chariot, with Damasteel blade and bolsters, 14kt opening pins, and a pair of very colorful black-lip pearl scales. The backspacer also has black-lip inlays between fully fileworked liners Thanks for looking, and I hope to see many of you at the upcoming Blade show. Kelly www.carlsonknives.com |

Pretty tough room here Kelly.... It's just a great looking knife, the work on the back, clean finish, and that nice hardy "click" when it opens made it hard for me to send back. Thanks for posting some recent work, and welcome back... Regards, Rich

Gorgeous knife...terrific photo!
Kelly- It's great to see you back here...The knife is truly wonderful...I'm certainly looking forward to seeing more of your posts. I know I'm probably prejudiced (Kelly and I are good friends) but I've been a big fan of his work for a long time. And this folder is right up there with the best of them. I love everything about it...great lines, great execution. Rich- In addition to this photo, Kelly was kind enough to share some of your other photos of his knives with me...and all I can say is WOW! You have gotten sooooo good!!!! Great job... Dennis Greenbaum Last edited by Osprey Guy; 04-23-2007 at 11:32 AM. |

Good morning all. I just returned from a long work weekend.
Not surprising is Rich's crystal clear photo. Always in the upper league of clarity and lighting. Also as impressive is Kelly's folder. Interesting to hold the scale with the single screw. Kinda the simple 'Movado' look. Thanks for the post! Coop |

Thank you for your great comments.
In response to your mention of the few screws for a linerlock, Coop, the bolster curve holds the scales rigidly, but I do also use hidden screws from inside the liners for added security - plus, as you know, I do prefer a less is better approach to many of my designs. |

It just doesn't get this good all that often! You guys have a lot of talent/savey/and know how. The knife comes together, as does the photo. Wow!

Was looking for a NH knife maker to connect with...tried to track down Mr. Carlson....found this...
http://www.ledgertranscript.com/article/kelly-j-carlson Kelly J. Carlson ANTRIM ? Kelly J. Carlson, 66, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2010. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Paula; three sons, Kelly Jr., Morgan and Damian; and his granddaughter, Hollis. Born in Providence, R.I., Carlson earned his degree from Providence College before joining the military. He served as a member of the U.S. Armed Special Forces and the Rhode Island National Guard MTU. Upon the completion of his service, Kelly began a distinguished career in the insurance industry, retiring as a senior executive from Phoenix Home Life in 2000. Following their dreams, Kelly and Paula relocated to a beautiful farm in southern New Hampshire surrounded by spectacular views and the horses, dogs and wildlife that they loved so dearly. Carlson turned a life-long hobby of knife making into a second career. He hand crafted hundreds of decorative collectors knives sold the world over under the name Carlson Knives. When not in his workshop, Carlson could be found hiking in the woods with his dogs or working on his farm with Paula. Riding his motorcycles, skiing, scuba diving and target shooting were other favorite pastimes. Carlson was a man of unmatched integrity. His immeasurable love and dedication to his family and friends will be deeply missed. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Humane Society of the United States, ASPCA or the North Shore Animal League. |
