Thanks for clarification.

I made a small test piece and hit the temperature i htough was correct based on nonmagnetic and colour.

Can i get you 0.02 on the grain structure on this?
I think it looks pretty good.

Nice, that makes me really happy 😀 now i just have to practice hitting the same spot.

Tempering has no effect on grain size right? Its only to releave the stress build up from the quench?

You are correct. Tempering will not effect the grain size. It will only adjust the hardness of the steel by allowing some of the carbon to escape the iron matrix. It will also create some carbides.
