Just how thick...
I have a contact who wants me to build a Wharnecliff slip joint. He wants a rugged knife he can use on a regular basis. He looked over my stuff and is now asking for the blades to be made from 1/8 rather than the usual 3/32. I called a long time maker and he suggested to only use 3/32. It would be heavier for sure and I am now unsure of he liner size too.
Thoughts? |

Depending on the size of the knife I see no problem with using the 1/8 steel. I prefer the 3/32 but on a bigger knife sometimes the 1/8 makes sense. What thickness are you using for your liners?

Hello, Dave.
3/32 should be good for nearly anything. The strength depends more on the way the flats are ground. I use .050 Ti f the knife isn't too big, especially if the knife has scales and/or bolsters to make it stronger. For a large linerlock without scales I'd probably use .090 Ti. |

Thanks. All I have are .40 liner material.
