large nessmuk

This one was a fun one to make. I always like it when someone pretty much says "do what you want" with just a few suggestions. Alaska was the basic idea on this one. I went with an oosik handle w/mastadon ivory spacer with micarta borders, wrought pommel and a wrought/1084 gaurd. This nessmuk skinning style blade seemed a natural for the theme. I stuck with all rounded edges...it just seemed to fit my mental image. The blade is 5160, differentially hardened and bead-blasted. Blade is about 5" long and a hair under 1/4" at the spine base with a gradual distal taper. The upper has a false edge which just seemed to look good on this style blade.

I actually finished it the first time back in May...then set it out to take some photos. Due to severe brainmelt, I left the knife sitting on a petrified log for a couple days...in thunderstorms. I thought this was never going to dry out. It did, though, and with no apparent shrink or swell. I guess something can be said for fossil handles! Well, here it is warm, dry and buffed!

Thanks guys!

Shhhhhh, Rick...I just uploaded some pics for adding to the site..but don't tell anyone! Hah. I'm trying to avoid packing by posting pics and uploading files. I have to take off again for a week or so, then back for a month, then out for two months or until it starts snowing in Northern Nevada!

Good interpretaqion of the theme IMO.

Send it to me and I'll see if it can survive its namesake....

Seriously, great work, I realy like it. Has a nice soft "feel" to it.

G.
