I need some help..
I've got my new oven all hooked up and ready to go, I've been using a propane forge and 1084 from Aldo up to this point, my question is about annealing and normalizing.
If I get my steel from Aldo it doesn't need to be annealed does it?
In my propane forge I would normalize a blade 3 times to red hot and cool it to black.
I'm wanting to try some 1095 with a hamon, and I'm confused reading all the ways to do it.
can someone give me a easy to understand way to get a great knife with a hamon using Aldos 1095?
Thanks

For 1095 you should quench with a fast pro oil like Parks 50. That's the main reason we don't recommend 1095 to the new guys but you're moving up in the world with that oven so, if you don't already have some Parks, its time to get some....

Availability comes and goes. Try hightemptools.com and usaknifemakers.com One of them should have it, otherwise try Google. If all that fails then look to Brownells for some Tough Quench. In any case, you'll want at least three gallons ...

Your in luck, these guys are near you! Maxim Oil in> Fort Worth, TX. Phone: 817-293-4645. They were a pleasure to deal with, and the lady I spoke with actually knew what quenching oil was.

I use a fair amount of 1095. You can go to the people at trugrit.com and they sell a product for 1095 called quickquench. It works great. They also sell it in 1 gallon quantities which helps because shipping the 5 gallon quantity can be expensive. The oil is also not cheap to boot. I bought the 1 gallon and have used it all year and it is great. Good luck.
