slip joint pivots
I was just wondering what everyone is using for the pivot pin on their bolster less slip joints.
Mainly the pivots that have the large diameter heads on them. |

If you are talking about one like this.
I just use a piece of 416 rod for the large part and a 416 pin just like it had a bolster. You can use what ever you like as long as both are the same material to keep the pin from showing. When you get the handle material on and the holes drilled counter bore the pivot hole to fit the size rod you are using. Cut off a piece from the rod and glue it in the counter bore then drill the pin hole from the liner side. Make one end as flat and square to the side of the rod as you can this end will do into the counter bore. When you are shaping the handle be careful not to over heat it, the glue lets go. From there it is just like a bolster. Taper the hole and clean your pins and peen it together. Craig |
