Cutting a nail nick - what size cutters?
I've been searching around trying to find a good answer for this, but maybe I've just overlooked it...
What size flycutters do I need for cutting a nail nick in a medium to large size slipjoint blade? Are there a few sizes I should get? What brands do you recommend? Anything I should look for? I appreciate any advice... thanks guys. __________________ -Andrew Riley For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword.... no u dont need a flycutter.
what you do is go and buy a medium sized chisel. take it to your grinder so you have a concave shape the size you want the nail nick. then place it on the blade and hit it with you hammer. just like that you have your own nail nick! simple and easy! ha ha! lol just kidding Drew.... i have no idea!!! good luck! |

I have used a dovetail cutter on my mini mill. 1 3/4" one that is 60 degrees I believe. It works very well. Make sure and run slow speeds with it and cut with your blade upside down. Makes a very clean nail nick. Hope that helps!

A 45 degree cutter will work just as well as any of the above. I have been using a 45 degree cutter for many years.
