316 forge welding?
Can 2 piecies of 316 be hand hammered, pressed, power hammered togeather?
How about 416? This will be for bolster or handle material so it would be nice to have no lines in it after buffing. Stephen |

Stainless steel can be forge welded only with great difficulty in a controlled environment free of oxygen to prevent oxides of chromium and nickel developing on the surface preventing the iron crystals in the two pieces from linking. People have created stainless damascus but, like regular welding, takes special equipment and techniques for it to succeed. Sorry, I know that's not the response that you were hoping for.
