Gotta love getting new toys!

So, I explained to my hubby that the zoom lens provided with the D80 that I bought last year was not going to give the outstanding results he wanted for his knives. Zoom lenses are okay, but a fixed lens would be the BOMB. Okay, I MIGHT have batted my eyes a weeeee bit. He then became agreeable to me purchasing a 50mm fixed lens. Being a stereotypical wife...I upped the ante and said what would be BETTER is an f/1.4 as opposed to an f/1.8. I mumbled some technical mumbo-jumbo about edge sharpness and light in to lens. Seeing his eyes glass over upon mentioning the technical stuff I again said it would help in better results. (Maybe a weeee bit more eye batting).

Last weekend we went to New Bedford for a hammer-in....Okay, HE did the hammer-in stuff, I went to visit Martha's Vineyard.

We spent the Saturday night at his cousin's house. From there, I found some camera stores in New Hampshire to check out the prices of lenses there, compared to here (Quebec, Canada). Between the lower price and the fact that there is no sales tax in NH (WHICH, I might add, is a HUGE bonus for anyone for Canada) I would be saving almost 100$.

After stopping at the store and telling the young gentleman I was taking it I asked what model monolight flashes he had either in stock or could get. I was thinking of our next trip down so that I could comparison shop. Well, lo-and-behold, he had a second hand (BARELY used) two light kit for sale. Two light heads, umbrellas, stands, hot-shoe adapter, sync cord and a nice case to put it all in all for the price of just a head would cost me back home.

I was going to think about it and have them ship it to me (I wanted to research the brand), but hubby convinced me to go for it.

So I now have an Excalibur P3200 kit, too. Did some research online. Seems to be a good starter kit.

So now hubby is finishing a knife and I'll be using it for the first time VERY soon. I can't wait to see what the results will be!

I'm actually thinking I might have too much power, but this thing has adjustable power, which is really cool.

I love getting new toys!!!!

OK, there is no such thig as too much power. Bat yout eyes and take advantage of what that brings ( can't be a bad thing)
Post some pics of projects of In Progress and finished product, Lets see what you can do with the new toys ( and the eye batting)

Nice and clear. That set of strobes is versatile. I use two monolights as well.

Good choices and GREAT build on this knife!
