Help Identifying My New Purchase.

I am not new to knives, but I am to this forum. I am not a member of another knife forum, and this is my first experience with an online knife community. I have been looking for a nice survival knife, and was about to purchase something along the lines of an Ontario ASEK knife, when I came across this today, at a local flea market.

I've never seen a knife exactly like this one. The blade is slightly pitted, with minor rust spots that I was able to remove with a kitchen sponge, a towel and some oil. While there are no chips or cracks of any kind, it does look as if the blade has seen its fair share of sharpening, though.

The blade itself looks to be some sort of stainless. It is 5.5" long. The tang appears to be made of brass (or lead? - if that's even a metal one would use for a tang... The top of the tang has a blackish-silverish hue, and the sides and underside of it are brass colored (goldish)) The tang has a small sunken spot near the blade, which I'll upload pics of when I get the chance. The handle seems to be made of walnut. As a side note, while the blade is magnetic, the tang is not.

It's a very sturdy knife, well balanced, with a surprisingly steep edge angle - although this could just be from improper/over-sharpening. I highly doubt the sheath is original, as the snaps are painted, but the knife looks as though is came around before snaps were commonly painted. Also, the paint on the snaps, as well as the sheath overall looks to be in MUCH too good condition for the appearance of the knife.

I hope these pictures, along with the description provide some idea of what this knife is. Any markings (if they were present at one point) are worn off and gone - or they've slipped my vision for now. Tomorrow I'll take another better look at the knife, and report anything new I find. Thanks for any info anyone can send my way.
