Newbie on Schrade Folder Repair

Howdy guys--new here and would like to ask a question about Schrade folder repair. Is there any way to repair (such as replace blade) on Schrade folders because of the rivet pin and the way they are made? The only feasible method I have thought of is to drill out the bolsters and pin them in that manner. Any suggestions and methods would be appreciated. Thanks.

If you'll go to rec.knives on usenet (it can be accessed through google.groups) and ask a fellow named Alvin Johnston (I think that is the right spelling) he can probably answer any question you can come up with. He does this sort of thing for fun (and has commented on the way Schrade knives are put together). You can even tell him I sent you.

A simple way, the way I do it, is to drive a thin sharp edge down between the blade and liner and sheer the pins, then when its apart, drive them out from the inside. That way you don't have to drill or grind on the bolsters.

The hard part is re-assmbly, peining the pins just right so as to not pinch the blade. Then you simple sand the pin down and lightly blend it back into the bolster. If done carfully, you don't lose any material from the bolster.

Whoa there, with schrade knives of the swinden rivit construction you don't want to try shearing them! First thing you'll want to do is remove the rocker pin, eat away the head on one side with a dremel tool and a small round cutter bit. then tap it out with a normal pin punch. you'll grab one liner in each hand withthe spine facing towards you and give it a twist, push down on one and pull up on the other, if it is a large knife like a 225H, 225OT 125OT ect, it will have a solid rear pin, which you'll need to shear. Then you drill out the bolsters and repin in the conventional manner of pocket knife construction. If you get stuck or have any questions feel free to email me.
