How do you maintain your knives?
Just curious what others do to maintain their knives. Do you break them down periodically & clean them? Do you just sharpen and lube them? How do you prevent rust & other damage?
Any comments would be welcome. Thanks, Eric __________________ S1N "A bad doing something you love is better than any day at work." |

The folders get blown out periodically with compressed air, and a couple drops of Hoppes #9 oil in the pivot. I don't worry about rust on these since they're mostly stainless and aluminum construction. The fixed blade knives, which are mostly O1 or 10xx steels, get the blades wiped down with mineral oil after use to prevent corrosion. Both types get sharpened as needed, but usually a periodic honing is sufficient to keep the fixed blades hair-popping sharp.
