Looking for Texas State Seal (button inlay)
A number of years ago Texas Knifemaker's Supply sold small Texas State Seal "buttons" for inlaying in handles, etc.
I remember they quit stocking them and they're not in their newest catalog. I'm waiting on a Tandy Leather catalog (just ordered) and their website doesn't show much of what I'm sure they still must stock. In the meantime, does anyone happen to have one or two of these you would part with? Or know of a source? I'm working on a big Texas Bowie with Mesquite handle. I had a thought this would top off the Texas theme nicely. Thanks. Kevin __________________ "I was put on this earth to accomplish some very specific tasks. Kevin,
Don't know if this is what your looking for but TKS still have buttons with stars in the center for 6.95. They may not be in their catalog but they still have some left. Hope this helps, Jim __________________ I cook with a flair for the dramatic, and depraved indifference to calories |

Thanks for the reply Jim.
I had called TKS and they do have a leather snap with a star, but the seals I'm looking for were about 1/2" or a little less and solid NS or SS for setting in handles. Maybe my use of the word "button" was mis-leading. Would you happen to have a part number or better description? I could try TKS again. Sorry,
The ones they had were about 1". If you can't find what you?re looking for you might want to try a jeweler who makes custom work. I've had one here locally that is great for making pewter seals for I use for stamping sheaths. Since the designs are fairly simple I only pay about $10-$20 dollars each. This maybe a little out of your price range but you might be able to trade work for work. He wanted to trade my blackwork stitching on his renaissance clothes for 14K yellow gold for bolsters, but I'm moving to soon to be able to do it. Bought a couple of state seals once from a badge company. They were about 1/2" or so.
Maybe a trophey maker would carry them? |

Thanks for the replies. Good ideas.
Made me think of a friend that does lost wax/investment casting. She's actually a dental technician, but makes jewelry on the side. As one that has been drug through James Avery on occasion, I was just there last weekend with the "missus". They have a "charm" with the Texas Seal. Check out http://www.jamesavery.com
It is not listed on their website but they do have it. "I seen it with my own eyes". It is just about the same size that TKS used to carry. Grind the charm hanging thingy off and you have it. Try one of the companies that makes police badges, they should have seals from all 50 states.
