Wiring 2 motors to a Single VFD
After upgrading my KMG to direct drive, I was left with the prospect of having to purchase another VFD (the old motore/controller was a DC setup). My pal Steve Kelly shared with me how to wire two 3 phase motors into a single VFD.... saving me about $400 versus having to purchase a new VFD.
I've created a new webpage on my site about how I did it...... http://www.caffreyknives.net/1_VFD_2_Motors.html I'm not an electrician, but am comfortable with electricity and wiring.....but I'm certainly no expert. All I know is that it worked for me, with the setup I used. If your setup is different then what I used, I doubt I'd be able to give you an pinpoint information, or answer specific questions. __________________ WWW.CAFFREYKNIVES.NET Caffreyknives@gmail.com "Every CHOICE has a CONSEQUENCE, and all your CONSEQUENCES are a result of your CHOICES." |

Hi Ed,
That link is very helpful. I do not know much about electricity. So I always have an electrician friend do the installations for me. My electrician has always recommended me to stay with the same brand for the motor & vfd combination. He says that seems to limit any problems, if any. I use LEESON too. Motor VFD |

Personally, I would not recommend using that type of VFD for a grinder application. I've worked with them before, and tried to help many other individuals with problems centered around that type/style of VFD. Experience has taught me that using a KBAC VFD, with the Nema enclosure is your best bet for easy setup, usability, and durability.
ANY VFD that has those "touch pad" controls is a problem waiting to happen.....especially in the type of environment they are exposed to in a knife shop. __________________ WWW.CAFFREYKNIVES.NET Caffreyknives@gmail.com "Every CHOICE has a CONSEQUENCE, and all your CONSEQUENCES are a result of your CHOICES." |
