Handle Materials - Where To Buy

I'd be interested in looking to buy some various materials for knife handles such as exotic and other suitable woods, mammoth ivory and teeth, elephant ivory, stag, etc. What sources are there available for top quality materials as mentioned above.

Get catalogs from all the major knife supply houses like Jantz, Texas Knifemakers, K&G Finishing, Sheffield's Knife Supply, and Kovals. Buy some trade magazines at your local news stand, like Blade Magazine and Knives Illustrated. Those mags carry ads from all those suppliers plus other specialty places like Culpepper Mother of Pearl.

The very best way to buy exotic materials is to hand pick them from the vendors who always seem to take their best stuff to the knife shows....

Ebay is a good source of handle material at very fair prices.

I have pick up stabilized Box Elder burl and curly maple, mammoth, girrafe, camel, cocobolo, ebony, and desert ironwood.

Much of this material is from the same fellas that work the shows. I have never been disappointed with a purchase.

Just do key-word searches for the stuff you want.

The best part is that you get to see a picture of the actual piece you are getting, unlike the catalog purchases. It's the next best thing to hand selection.
