Biggest knife to date. Bowie/camp knife??

Well here is the longest knife I have made to date.

Steel is 1084(3/16" thick), brushed finsh. Handle is made out of osage orange(Thank you Steve Sando) and finished with tung oil. Small brass guard on it as well. It can hack up 2x4's with no problem at all and sliced nice as well!!!! I guess this would be considered a bowie or a camp knife style??? All thoughts and comments welcomed.

OAL: 12 1/2 inches
BL: 7 1/2 inches

Thanks for looking

Ross

I like the slim lines of that blade and
the handle looks very comfortable to me.
Is it a hidden or full tang and is there a reason why the second pin is a bit lower than the first?
The sice is exactly what i like!

Its a hidden tang, and yes the pin is lower, I figured someone would pick that up. Jus ta mistake on my part. I went ahead with it and finished it up anyway. Thanks for the kind words.

Ross, nice job, nice knife. To me, your "mistake" follows the curve of the choil, and I personally like it. Like Bigbore, I also like the slimness of the blade, and I'm a sucker for a brushed finished. I'm trying to perfect that technique myself, you have it down already.

Nice looking blade - the handle looks like it would accomodate a chopping swing for sure. Tough for me to imagine how it might feel in hand.

A longer blade (9") might be better for chopping. I sure like the slim profile of your blade and the choil that would allow for finger placement.

For a camp knife, the top guard is probably not necessary and interferes with thumb placement on the blade or end of handle.

RH: here is a close up of what i call a brushed finish. It dawned on me that a brushed finish can mean a lot of things and how it is done. The original picture isnt that great but hopefully this is better for showing the finish. Let me know what you think. How do you do a brushed finish? What are you using??
