Grinder tracking
I have an older balder grinder that won’t track worth a flip. The track wheel is crowned to 30 thousands or better! Any suggestions?

I'm no expert, but I'll tell you what mine is.
My 2x48 grinder is crowned 0.015 inch, half of your's, but it tracks slow when I turn the tracking bolt. I hope that helps.

Assuming there isn't some type of physical damage to the machine (something bent or tweaked somewhere), usually tracking issues tend to be maintenance related..... It can be caused by a worn drive, or attachment contact wheel(s), worn parts in the tracking mechanism, or even worn bearings.
My suggestion would be methodically go through the machine and check everything out. Personally, I keep a supply of bearings in the shop for just such instances. Grinders, like any other machine, require routine maintenance. If you've not done that in a while, now is the time. If you let it go, things will only get worse. __________________ WWW.CAFFREYKNIVES.NET Caffreyknives@gmail.com "Every CHOICE has a CONSEQUENCE, and all your CONSEQUENCES are a result of your CHOICES." |
