Online Knife Magazines

Undoubtably many of you have known that there are two web-based online knife magazines. Both of which are FREE:

Blades International

The Finer Edge

Both of them have very interesting stories and are easy to read. Lots of images are on display. (You will notice I have a LOT of work displayed by both magazines. I am touting the mags and glad to have my client's work shown to the knifeworld. Every time we enjoy a custom knife experience and provide promotion it is a GOOD thing!) Murray White has the cover photo on TFE's latest as I write.

I have no stake in these magazines other than nice exposure. Ty Young has taken over BI from Bud Lang (who originally created some problems on paid subscriptions), and Manuel Silviera created the TFE format spawned by BI's success. I have a VERY good relationship with both editors and am glad for the dual presences. They are both friends to our custom knife world, and are passionate about their productions.

Both magazines have the objective to be downloaded to your computer and then opened, read, and saved as wished. TFE also has an online function that is made available shortly after the downloadable release. The process if great if you have broadband, and I have heard of ZERO virus attacks or other ad-related problems from both editors. I believe in the format and I think it will become a larger presence in the future.

If you haven't already, I suggest you bookmark the sites and try a copy.

The latest BI has an in-depth story on myself. Ty Young and I did an interview and he captured nicely in words much of what goes on in my photo studio and biz. I hope you don't think it too self-serving to mention this.

Anyway, let me know your thoughts on these magazines. I like them, in spite of some minor inconveniences to download and read. A very small price to pay in comparison to a paid paper magazine.

I think that the concept of a web based magazine is great. I was an early adapter ( I was one of Bud's paying customers ) and I think this medium is great. Especialy for us Europeans because a subscription for one of the leading knifemags is a costly business and I'm not even speaking about the way the mag is delivered (all torn and twisted). Now that TFE has started with paying attention to the European makers (one of the Dutch makers, and not even the best, is featured in the March issue) this magazine has broadened his horizon. I think that is great because, although a few Americans might disagree, the world doesn't end at the borders of the USA .

The mags deliver enough variety, great quality pictures (no Coop I'm not sucking up to you ) and interesting stories and articles. I even get a warning from TFE when the next mag will be available, what more can a knifenut want, except more money to buy more knives.

It sure doesn't and it has been a real pleasure meeting people and seeing work from around the world.

The online mags are great and will continue to get better and better. Coops great work is a treat to see published. I get Finer Edge and am going over to look at BI. Thanks for the heads up.
