HELP! Mold on leather.
I have a couple of old knives that I had in the basement and they got some mold on the leather sheaths. What is the best way to get rid of the mold and clean the leather?
Before anyone scolds me, I know I should not have had the knives down there ,but things happen, I just want to know the best way to fix it. Thanks Mace __________________ ABS Journeyman Smith www.laurelrockforge.com "Ain't nothing more useless than a dull knife or a short piece of rope" |

Mace -
Wipe them clean with some white vinegar on a soft cloth (don't soak it just damp) and than letting them dry. Then clean with Lexol PH Balanced leather cleaner. After they are completely dry. Finish up with a coat of Lexol Conditioner and then buff with a clean dry cloth and or a good shoe brush. For a little higher polish you can use neutral shoe polish and buff good. Some folks may recommend denatured alcohol or acetone, but vinegar is what conservators use for antique leather bound books. __________________ Chuck Burrows Hand Crafted Leather & Frontier Knives dba Wild Rose Trading Co Durango, CO chuck@wrtcleather.com www.wrtcleather.com The beautiful sheaths created for storing the knife elevate the knife one step higher.
