an old favorite and a ???
the first is just an old favorite of mine---Marbles (Gladstone Michigan) 6" blade and stacked leather handle. I've had it almost 30 yrs and it was old then.
the second is one given to me just recent in exchange for sharpening another blade. it was in the condition shown when recieved. blade is 10 1/4" (stamped at hilt-"original elckhorn solinger") don't know what the blade etching says. i believe the scabbard is german silver. I'm looking to rehandle it if i find just the right stuff-azmike |

The unknown piece is a "RAD Hauer". RAD was an NS- Organisation, (Reichs Arbeits Dienst), Hauer means Chopping Knife. The inscription "Arbeit adelt" means "Work ennobles (you)". The Manufacturer is Eickhorn, Solingen, http://www.eickhorn-solingen.de/ manufacturer of Army Knifes, Sabres, Bajonets etc.

Hi
I've seen pictures of this model of knife in a book recently. It was the officers version of the RAD (National Labour Service) dagger. It has a white handle, being an officers dagger for a third reich organisation it is most probably ivory rather than stag. I presume new ivory is banned in the US so if you don't have an old piece, ivory micarta might be the way to go in rehandling it. I do like the blade shape of the Marbles though. Kevin |
