I went to the intro class a couple years ago. It was definitely worth the cost and time spent.

Abs Classes in Haywood.

The ABS offers a variety of classes at Haywood, I took the basic knifemaking class. In that class we talked about tools and types of steel and heat treating. We spent most of our time at the forge. If you don't spend all day every day forging and working on knives every day in your shop you will be amazed at how far doing that for two weeks will take you. We each made several knives, including knives made to the ABS performance test specifications and we did the test on our knives. There were six in my class. Two of us passed on the first knife, two had to take a second try to pass and two broke all their knives.
At 800 dollars, it's pricy and by the time you get a room and meals you'll spend 2400 dollars, but its worth it.
