Looks like a piece of Ala. Damaskus. I bought a piece like that from Brad for 30 bucks.

Talis, that is a nice chunk there. Lot of material. I am trying to use mine wisely. I am going to use some of it as a frame for a linerlock. I also plan to make a tattoo machine frame when I get brave enough.
Sorry I used your thread to gloat over my good fortune. I was just lucky to run into Brad as he was packing up from a show. He is a nice guy with a good sense of humor. He had us laughing. I liked the way he set up his table with the damaskus in all the stages of developement. I hear he has a great shop. How about posting some pics for us here. I haven't been able to get two pieces to stick together yet, but I'm trying to learn.

This is still available, as is, but I will probally be having it cut down into some more resonable size billets this week, please email me if interested...Kind of hard to move all at once, also doesn't look like much right now as it is toooooo big to etch...I ONLY have a 4-5 " etching tank set up...Once I get it cut, I'll probally grind down one side, and etch it so I can see the pattern.

I'll post pictures on my website under www.mbkco.com/damascus when it is cut, ground and etched.

Talis

I would probably try relisting it as is one more time. Don't they forgive your listing fee for one if it sells the second time?

Yep, they credit the relisting fee, so I might do that...I'm going to try and sand it down a bit more, and try to figure out a way to etch it to bring out the pattern some, I got nearly 300 page hits, so I think if I can get the pattern to show up, I might have better luck moving it...now all I have to do is find a glass plate big enough to put it in...

I'm curious as to how you made the selection of 5160 and 1018? I don't hear of that too much.

Etchant

I use 50/50 Etchant and white vinegar and with Brads steel takes about 15seconds or so then rinse and rub gentle with used 1500 grit wet/dry while rinsing brings out the highlights.
