Olympic and Evenheat Kiln
I am looking at getting a kiln to HT my knives and I am looking at the Olympic Model 1823FL, the Evenheat KO 22.5, or the Evenheat KF 27. When I said I was looking at getting a kiln my wife asked if there were ones that I could HT my knifes in and she could do some pottery work in witch is why I was looking at the Olympic, because of the greater volume. I have herd good things about the Evenheat but I have not herd much about the Olympic for HT. I would like to know what there ramp speed is and how long they take to get to 2000f. Also does the ramp speed of the kiln increase if you take up some of the volume with firebrick? Thanks.

I can't speak to the Olymic kiln...I don't think I've ever seen one in person. Evenheat is what I consider a "middle of the road" oven. It might sound snobbish, but after having dealt with heat treat ovens over the years, I simply won't have anything other than a Paragon. It's the only brand that I've not found serious fault with. Don't get me wrong....I'm not dogging any of the others, but the simple fact is that the Paragon is tops in the industry.
Lots of arguments could be made I suppose, but if you're going to spend the money on a heat treat oven, my line of thinking is to get the best bang for you buck...and there no doubt in my mind that would be a Paragon. __________________ WWW.CAFFREYKNIVES.NET Caffreyknives@gmail.com "Every CHOICE has a CONSEQUENCE, and all your CONSEQUENCES are a result of your CHOICES." |

My understanding and research into several brands of HT ovens always seems to lead back to Paragon. Some points to consider. .. Design of the drop down door to minimize heat loss and gets the door out of the way for safety, cut off switch when the door opens, the 12 key controller, ease of programming, saving 'recipes' or ramp programs, gas injection options, temperature limit of 2350degrees, high quality components and customer service from Paragon all add up to a powerful sum.Im looking forward to owning the km-18 model (I'm saving pennies for a new one as there are Zero used ones available..) 2cents from a newbie only! Good luck, I hope you let us know what you purchase.

I would second Ed's opinion on Paragon vs Evenheat. I would also recommend getting programmable controls & 220 volt. You will be glad that you paid the little extra for both.
