Looks like everything is planned. Got all the paperwork squared away with the Base referral office this morning, and I'm happy to say it was much less painful then I imagined. Tickets, lodging, and instructions, all in one stop!

I have to repeat what I said earlier about the folks at the Utah Med Center....they've called me nearly every day to check on me and see if there is anything they can do to make the trip/appointments easier on me.....at first I was stunned.....and I think the gal I was talking to caught onto it.....after stammering a few times, I just told her "Bless You!" After "pulling teeth" around here to get a nurse to return a call, I wasn't sure how to act when one actually called me....several times.....without any prodding. I sure hope their hospitality is an indicator of the quality of care they provide. For once I'm actually anxious to get to a Doc Appt.

I sounds like you have reached a facility that actually cares about their patients. I know that is a great feeling for you. During my wifes many health issues and many surgeries, I have dealt with the type you have been dealing with and also the very good ones.

Ed: I think C.Craft hit the nail on the head when he said "Then one of the local doctors finally suggested that we go to UAB at Birmingham, Al. I was a little reluctant at first as so was the wife. The doctor explained these doctors at the university see off the wall cases all the time. Where him as a local doctor may or may not see one is his lifetime."

My own wife is suffering with a massive yeast infection that none of the local Docs seemed to be able to do anything with. Finally she went down to UCLA and saw an infectious disease specialist. It seems that this condition is far more common than any of her previous doctors knew. Between diet, and all the antibiotics that we consume (through our foods and even tap water) the ability to treat this condition has been compromised and more and more women seem to have the problem and it goes underdiagnosed. Several times the pain was so bad she mentioned being put down like a pet. I think she was "joking" (as if there was anything funny about pain that intense). Fortunately, she is making progress and is beginning to see light at the end of the tunnel. The key to this is getting to a large (usually a University or Research) hospital that sees these unusual conditions on a regular basis, rather than a local PCP who MIGHT see one in an entire lifetime of practice!! Looks like you've overcome that particular hurdle for now.

I wish you the best of luck. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Bob

Cindy and I will be flying out tomorrow morning at 7am (12 Nov), headed to the University of Utah Med Center in Salt Lake. I have tests scheduled for Tue & Wed, along with an office visit with the Gastro Doc. We're suppose to get back to Great Fall around 9pm on Thursday evening.

Just realized that I won't be around for Wed night Knife Chat, but we are taking the laptop with us....so you might just see me there! (hopefully where we're staying will have free/fast WIFI!

Please keep us in prayer for a safe trip and that these Docs will be able to nail things down for me.
