steel problem
Hi everyone,
i?ve got a bit of a problem. i made a knife in a swedish tool steel, now i?m wondering if there is a comparable steel in the states. the manufacturer (uddeholm) hasn?t listed one. here is a link to the steel specs. http://www.ramada.pt/acos/pdf/pdf/Sleipner.pdf /Roger __________________ Life is to short to own an ugly gun or knife. |

Tool Steel:
Roger, I just finished looking in the Heat Treaters Guide and could not cross the steel specs on the steel you have. Does the Co. have a AISI number or a military spec? The Co. may have the AISI but are only going by the name. Most of the Sweden steel uses a 4 digit number system--- 1870 Swedish is 1095 US 2260 is A2 US. Please keep us posted. Merle

I can't find one either but why is that a problem ? As long as it's available there and you have the HT proceedure use it and don't worry . It should perform somewhat like A-2.

the biggest problem is that i?ve got a potential customer,
and he wants to know what steel he can compare it to.... i?ve told him that in chipping resistance and abrasive resistance Sleipner is between D2 and A2. looking att the comparison table on page 9 in the pdf document i linked to. /Roger __________________ Life is to short to own an ugly gun or knife. |

and what do you think it will be good?

Cruwear / PD1 is more wear resistant and harder/stronger.
Sleipner should be a little tougher but PD1 is PM grade and sleipner is ingot so my bet is they will have similar toughness. And similar corrosion resistance too. both have around 8% Cr. |
