Round Stock?
What would be a good size round stock to work with in making friction folders or smaller knives.. Thanks Mongo |

Mongo, I'll give you this information and let you figure what size you want to go with. Lets say all these are forged to the edge. 3/8 = 1".. 1/2 = 1 1/4".. 5/8 = 1 1/2".. and 3/4 = 1 3/4". Your size may be somewhat different, but this is pretty close to what I've come up with. Most of what I forge is from round stock. Hope this helps. Ray |

I work with 3/8" up to 1/2". Over 1/2" it becomes a real job flattening, and that's what you spend your fuel and your energy doing instead of blade shaping and bevelling--best to switch to flat stock at that point. |
