New shop
OK is 24 X 30 Large enough for a shop? Note it will also have a 12 X 14 clean room, I only want to do this once.

my shop is 20 x 20, I haven't seen the floor in years. I'm beginning to think that it's just a rumor.

For the last 10 years I've been in a 18 X 18. I do hope a 24 X 30 with the separate 10 X 14 clean room will be enough. The clean room, for leather is not a part of the 24 X 30 floor space.

I think I have "space" envy. My 'dirty' work station is 9' x 7' with absolutely no more room. .

It will get small sooner or later unless you are better at organizing than I am. My shop is 30x50 and I have goat trails thru it. I just put things where they would fit when I got them and I get lots of exercise walking about in it while making a knife. Having a seperate clean room will is a great idea! I wish I would have done that in my shop. It would be rather painful and expensive to do it now. I'm sure you know this but organize it on paper before you build it. I didn't and have a roll up door that I didn't need but wanted and now that is kind of a wastes space. Lay it out on paper to scale using the foot print of your equipment will give you a really good idea how to lay it out so you won't be walking 4 miles a day in your shop making a knife.

I would build it as big as I could aford or that space will allow. Even then I am sure if you are like most guys it still wont be big enough after a few years of collecting stuff.

I know the layout. I had a layout in my old shop that worked great. Then I moved. U shaped work bench's gave me a easy transition from grinder to drill press to mill. Also a great assembly area. I am looking at a Morton building. It is pricey but it's turn key. I would build it myself but due to some health concerns I'm not even sure how much I'll actually be able to work in it. Also looking at some prefab shops. Price is great but not sure about the quality. They look like a carport with walls and doors. If I built what I want I'd have $50,000 in a shop. My budget's not half that........LOL
