154 CM as a backspring?

Can 154 CM be used as a backspring? I've noticed that there are makers who use ATS 34 for backsprings. ATS 34 and 154 CM are very similar so I thought I could use 154 CM for backsprings. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.
Thanks
Tim

Tbonz, I mainly use carbon steel for my backsprings and blades, but stainless can be used also if heat treated properly. Here is a chart showing the time and temperature involved in tempering 154CM as a spring:

I have several maker friends that use ATS and have been told it is the best spring material ever, period. 154 is essentially the same with .04 less of an unimportant element. The big difference was the vacuum melt I think. So, go with it I think.

154 CM as a backspring

THanks for the input guys. I appreciate all the information that I receive. I'm in the process of making my first slip joint folder. THis is actually my second attempt, my first had a few problems from which I've learned from. I now have a better idea on what to be especially carefull with as well as a better understanding on how all the parts interact.
