stop pin
hi all, if im planing on useing a solid stop pin how would i press fit it with just hand tools, or am i better of just using a piviot pin for it?

That can be done with hand tools. There are two tricks that will make the job easier.
First, the bolster you are pressing into is probably somewhere near 1/8th thick. That's too thick to press a pin completely through without a good chance of bending something. So, drill an undersized hole in the bolster about .004 smaller than the pin. Then ream the hole to a clearance fit to within about 25 thou of the end of the hole if you are using titanium, or 40 or 50 thou for steel bolsters. Be sure to ream the clearance from the inside side of the knife. Second, drill the hole on the other bolster and ream it for clearance before you try to install the pin. Assemble the knife, slide the pin through the handle and squash it in your vise to set the pin. Doing it this way should eliminate any aligment problems with the pin....... |
