Question on attaching thin butt cap

Lots of good ideas here! On the last three I've done I used solid brass screws for brass and ss screws for ss/ns caps. I drill a hole just the size of the screw shaft and then counter sink to the diameter of the shaft just above the threads. With antler I don't drill a pilot hole, but do drill one with wood. The epoxy goes on and then screw the butt cap down as far as the screws will go. After grinding the heads down flush, sanding or buffing makes them almost invisible. This seems to let the screws hold solid with the epoxy.
