I am going to add single pictures of Delrin-handled RMKs by add-editing this post unless something extraordinary comes along. This is to reduce the length of the line. This knife (below) shows that unique RMK knives can have a counterpoint (heh heh). My m1-6 with Delrin and sawteeth acquired from Ron Mathews has a younger brother out there? but without fingergrips.
From Hunt: Randall Military Models; p. 51. Model 1-6 From Peter Cuervo Collection. Knife dated to 1970 by Hunt. The next is a picture that is in Wickersham: Randall Knives ? A Reference Book, p. 85. This is a m7-4.5 with 5-spacers that may already have been shown by 505Gibbs - aka Mike. For now I'll treat this as a new entry 7-4.5 similar to Mike's. (Welcome back to this site Sheldon ... I look forward to your commentary and experience. This site has an impressive group of senior occasional commentators.) "Upon further review..." I've decided Mike's knife is the same one that was featured in Sheldon's book based on sheath anomalies and similar bottom thick red spacer. So I've modified the summary to reflect this in the interest of historical accuracy. Added, 10-25-2016: I'm adding more Delrin-handled RMK knives I found searching the net. The first is what seems to be a 12-9 picture by Marty Dunning. I know nothing about this knife and with those spacers it is possible that it is another, later material. But some Bowies early '70s did have similar looking spacers. And Marty was apparently ay member of the RKS and is an experienced collector from what I've found. His picture caption declared it Delrin, it looks like Delrin, so for now we will treat it as such until additional pictures of this knife can be found. Here is another picture gleaned off of the internet of a familiar friend, the escutcheon plate m2-7 (now confirmed length), and a pinned butt 2-5 posted on another site by Marty Dunning. The 2-5 with the pinned butt is a new entry and will move the chains. The pinned butt also makes it possible to date this knife to 1972. The next knife was sold on E-bay last year (2015) It is an obviously heavily used, 12-6 seven spacer. No other details are available. __________________________________________________ ______________________ __________________________________________________ ______________________ Last edited by Jacknola; 07-26-2017 at 02:52 PM. |

Wow Jack! I've been through Bob's 2nd book several times and that 1-6 never registered in my brain for future referral. I would have bet the house that the one I sold you was the one and only made. I owe you a beer as a retro-active discount. You just have to come to the bay area to collect.

Ron, I too had overlooked that page in Hunt for some reason. It just didn't register. But, no need for rebate... I've already gotten the full value of the price from toying with it for hours on end while watching football, etc. Perfect size for armchair air-fencing or checking blade hone on hairs. Of course I could be a little... strange ... too.

Jack,
I confess I fondled the knife a bit before I sent it out to you. It's just one of those knives that begs you to play with it. |

I am manipulating the posts by cutting and pasting the summary to keep it as the last post. This post then is the new information.
Marty Dunning forwarded pictures of his nice collection of Delrin knives. In this collection there seems to be one that is a new entry thus will change the summary. It is what looks to be a little bear 12-6 with escutcheon plate. Also of note is that the 12-9 has an etched logo and the 2-7 and 2-5 both have separate "S." Also interesting is the 2-5 has a type 1 stamp, pre 1966, but has only 5 spacers AND has a pinned pommel... which I thought was only used briefly in 1972. A mysterious conjunction of features to say the least. In my eyes though, the star is the 2-7 with escutcheon plate... always catches my eye. All in all a very nice group. This post and the catalogue of all the known Delrin-handled RMKs has been edited, updated, and moved to the (currently) last page of this line, page 13.

Bill forwarded some pictures of a late '60s model 2-5 with Delrin handle that he just acquired. It is a knife not previously featured in this line and looks to be in great condition with some interesting features, especially the lugged, thick, hilt. I like the way the handle is slim near the hilt and smoothly transitions visually to the blade. Nice.

Must have 'seller's remorse' - lowered the price to only $9800..

Here are the BAD pictures that accompany this auction. This is a nice knife, no doubt, and the sheath is interesting... but I'm a bit bored by it all now... I might offer him 10% of his asking priced though.
His auction claims model 2 with Delrin handle is unique. Nope, refer to cliffs notes summary and see several. Hard to take this guy seriously. Last edited by Jacknola; 07-26-2017 at 02:23 PM. |

I don't think the sheath ever came with this knife - if I'm incorrect, pls. advise.
