242 thread locker question - solved
I've been trying and unsuccessfully at that to get some Loctite 242 to cure. Thread is 3/8-16 with a reducer bushing. The 3/8" is pretty coarse so there is airspace. I cannot over apply because the bushing goes into a compartment that houses a gear assembly, having a thread locker in there is not wanted.
Directions state anaerobic curing and with the threading, it has plenty of air so it remains wet. If I had a vacuum press this would be easy to solve. In this absence, any tips?
Edit/update
As I threaded the insert in, it coated the bushing creating the excess airspace. Instead of doing it vertically, I tipped the assembly 90 degrees and applied a bit more so that the thread locker would "pool" on one side pushing out any air. That did it. The thread engagement on this bushing is good but not a high percentage so this tolerance issue was what I was battling.
