trying to find belts for my 4 x 36 grinder

I am getting really stumped, if anybody in the Toronto area could give me a lead where to find some belts for my 4x36 grinder would be GREAT!!! I am most looking for 220 and up (do they make 400, 600 for it) also how about scotch brite belts....I used to ship them in from the USA but recently I have been having problems with Customs so IF I can get them locally or at least from within Canada it would be wonderful...

i bought a 4x36 at homedepot and all they have is 50,80 and 120 grits other stores dont even have 4x36. im pretty sure your stuck with very limited grits. the kind of belt sanders you will find in homedepot etc. will be low grits cause belt sanders are used for rapid removal of lagre quanities of material. if you want finer grits you may have to use a specialized grinder or make your own to fit the longer belts out there.

I found a lady on ebay who sells under the name : discount abrasives. I buy all the 4 x 36 belts from her , she has just about all the grits you want , and you can get some in Zirconia as well. I have recently got some 2 x72 belts from her in 40 , 80 and 120 grit. And also have 4 medium scotchbrites ( not sure if they are true 3m or another companies version ) , 4 scotchbrites for $31.80 plus shipping. 4 x 36 Zirconia 50 grits were $17.50 for 10 , 220 alum oxide are around $13 plus shipping for 10.

Good to hear someone else starting the same way I did. A couple of sugestions. Discount abrasives on ebay is pretty good. Also check out www.sandpaper.ca he is located in southern ontario and all his prices include the taxes and he is a great guy to work with.

I found that the belts from Sears, Home Depot, ect, are for wood working and don't last long when grinding on metal or even the hard and stabilized woods we use. The ones from Jantz, as well as their discs, last a long time when cutting metal and wood if you use a belt cleaner when it gets clogged from oily or stabilized woods.
