hey guys i just bought a Kayak, and would like to make a dive knife that i can put on my life jacket for when i am on the lake.
i would like to make it out of stainless, but have no experience using stainless. what kind of stainless would you recomend? i normally use 1095, what are the differences of heat treating 1095 to stainless? thanks guys! Captain |

Some basic differences:
Stainless steel will typically have to be heated quite a bit higher than regular carbon steel, so it usually has to be wrapped air tight in stainless foil as well, to reduce/eliminate scale that would result otherwise. Also, Stainless is usually "air hardened" or placed between two large aluminum plates/blocks for instance in order to cool it down and get the hardness in the blade. Depending on the steel, it may also benefit from Cryo treatment quite a bit more than a steel like 1095 would. __________________ -Andrew Riley For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword....
