I'll have the room open again tonight from 2pm to 7 pm Pacific time (5 pm to 10 pm Eastern). All you have to do to drop in is go to http://www.rayrogers.com/chat/chat.htm and type in the lockword (password) which is knifemaker and it should drop you right into the chat room with the rest of us. We'll do this again one more time tomorrow night so that everybody has a chance to participate ...

We had a pretty good time last night (Saturday) in the chat room, even though we spent a lot of time trying to get people's mics and speakers working. Even so, we got to talk knives and solve a few problems. Since Sunday is the most popular day on the poll I expect there will be an even better turnout to night. To participate, all you have to do is go to:
http://www.rayrogers.com/chat/chat.htm
and enter the password (Paltalk calls it the lockword) which is knifemaker
If you don't have a mic you can type or just listen, as you choose. If you would rather download the Paltalk software yourself you can do that from paltalk.com . Be sure to go through the Audio Setup to get you mic and speakers working if you choose to download Paltalk yourself. Then, find the KNET Noobies room under Miscellaneous/Other and sign in with the knifemaker password.
Either way you choose to get there is fine, being there is the fun part . The room will be open from 2pm to 7 pm Pacific (5 to 10 pm Eastern) tonight Oct 28, 2012 ...

I'm interested in joining in on this stuff here but sadly all my nights have been spent at work closing. So I was wondering what nights this'll be on so I can try to catch them in the future.

Richard, Rick:
Sorry you guys couldn't make it. This week, I think I'll try it a little different. Paltalk gets very busy on the weekends , we managed OK on Friday and Saturday but Sunday there were over 90, 000 people on Paltalk and their servers were so loaded that our conversations were so choppy that we couldn't understand each other so we typed most of the evening.
This week, let's try Tuesday and Friday nights. The Poll says those days are next most popular and maybe performance will be better. And, it might give people a chance to join whose weekends are too busy. So, this week it will be Tuesday and Friday from 5 pm to at least 7 pm Pacific (8 pm to 10 pm Eastern).
Also, if anybody needs some other time slot and can't make the ones I pick just say so. We can do this most any time...

Glad to hear it had a good turnout. I wasn't able to make it this weekend since it was when I was sleeping but my sleeping schedule is ever changing so I'll make it one of these days.
As for network congestion....does Skype have chatroom features? I use them for calls, and have had good luck. But then you may have to download the software...

I've looked at Skype and Yahoo, MSN, Mumble and numerous other software. Many of them have chat rooms but either the software didn't test well, or it was difficult to install, or the chat rooms were limited to a few people, or they were designed so that access was difficult for people who weren't already familiar with how to get to the rooms, or there was a subscription fee, yada, yada, yada. Or, they flat out didn't work very well.
Paltalk is the best of the bunch but it isn't perfect. The good news is that you don't have to install any software and all you have to do to get in is find my webpage and type in the password (see the first post in this thread for that info). Usually, Paltalk performs pretty well and it's simple to use. If you can play a video or music on your computer then you can hear us talk. If you have a mic then you can talk too. Otherwise, we can type.
This week, I'll have the room open Tuesday and Friday from 5pm Pacific until 7 pm (at least). If you need another day and time just say so. We'll try different things until we sort out what works best for the most people...

Just a reminder that the chat room will be open this afternoon Tuesday, Oct 30, 2012 at 5pm Pacific (8 Eastern). See the first post in this thread if you need instructions on how to get there. It's free, it's simple to do, and it's as useful and as much fun as you want it to be....
