Jimping?

I'd like to try some jimping on a few knives. I'm fairly certain that I can pull it off, and do a clean job of it. My question to those who have experience is, is there a particular size or shape that you find works better than another? I'm going to do some experiments, but without fielduse it may to tough to tell any distinguishable difference. So I thought I'd ask those with some experience.
Thanks

I doubt that you will find anything that works better than the pattern produced by a 20lpi checkering file ...

I agree with Ray..... a 20 lpi (lines per inch) checkering file is the way to go.

Based on your post, I suspect your thought was to do it with a needle file and cut multiple, individual cuts/grooves..... That's very difficult to do, and even more difficult to do well. The checkering files aren't cheap (expect to pay around $50 for a good one) but it's the right tool for the job.

Good deal. Thank you. I will have to see if I can't get my hands on a checkering file then? By chance do either of you have any photos with an example?
Thanks
