Paul Kossoff.
This is a sad one... He died way too young, only 25.

"FREE"

One of the greatest rock bands of all times! RIP Paul.

I still have this album on vinyl... it's very special.

Blues greats Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee on one of their albums were reminiscing about life on the road. Canned Heat’s “On The Road Again” was mentioned, and Sonny Terry commented, “Canned Heat, didn’t that use to be a drink?”

Sterno was a brand name. The product is/was generically referred to as canned heat. When I was a kid, the hobos, when short on dinero, would strain a can of sterno through a sock to separate the chemical from the gel, to make a drink called pink lady. I’m not sure, but I think it had a lot of methanol in it. It would get you messed up, but it could also make you blind, and crippled, and eventually dead.

RIP, SD.

That video has some of the worst sound recording I've ever heard. In those days, most TV shows had people lip synch to recorded music because they didn't have the ability to mix the sound.

I think it sounds pretty good,... through a good set of studio quality headphones. I can really hear the rawness of young S.W. vocals. It sounds like he's one show away from losing his voice, like he's straining on every note. All the new digital music these days is just way too clean, sterile and over-produced.

True. Imagine how awful "Louie Louie" would be if done today. Bob Dylan hosted a show on the blues on SiriusXM. He played an old jazz number by a Chicago woman that was recorded back in the 20's. After it he said something to the effect of, "Listen to the microphone hiss, the uneven sound levels, the scratching from the old record, and the cheap piano that's out of tune. It's perfect!"
