North American Solar Eclipse August 21 2017

I know this has nothing to do with Randall knives, but later this summer, we are going to have a total eclipse of the sun cutting a path thru North America on August 21 of this year.
I personally have never experienced a total eclipse, just a partial a couple of times.
Any stories or experiences out there? If it involves a Randall...cool!

Regards, Sam

My late wife and I did experience a total eclipse of the sun sometime ago, in the 1980's I think.

All I remember was that we were so concerned about not looking up at the sun and having our retinas burned out that we saw nothing.

Seriously, it was was an amazing experience and quite eerie.

Cheers!

David

A number of years ago, I did witness a lunar eclipse at the same time that the comet Hale Bopp was prominent in the night sky. That was very eerie.
There were 2 comets prominent in back to back years, Hyakutake in '96 and Hale Bopp '97. These comets dominated the night sky, and it just amazes me how many people did not see/notice it!

Go buy a welder's lens for looking at the sun. An electric arc is brighter. I remember making some cardboard cutout for my kid's school to look at a partial. They are cheap, a #10 will be fine.

I remember a total solar eclipse when I was a kid in New Haven, CT. I might have to take a road trip to S.C. for this one.

Thanks for the advise Skilled. I will do that.
Bill, I saw a lot of those comets not too far from your neck of the woods. My brother owned property up in Chiefland, and my mom up in Old Town.
With this eclipse probably being the last one in my neck of the woods in my lifetime, I will be watching the weather closely, and if it's cloudy that day, I will travel elsewhere where it's not. That would be a total bummer to have it be overcast that day!

Thanks for the info on that. I'm in the process now of making reservations to go to the NC mountains to watch. We have been wanting to get back up to that area anyway so that seems like a good time to do it. Southern NC/Northern GA looks to be right in the middle of the eclipse "sweet spot".
