Wenge: Who's made handles from it
My brother is giving me what ever I need. Who's used it and has good tips for cutting/sanding?

I've used it quite a bit and like the way it works. Sands easy and finishes out well with Danish Oil, Tung oil, etc. Andy Roy (Fiddleback Forge) uses a lot of it on his work and is also very pleased with it.

I just finished one with wenge for the handle today.
I just did normal procedure as far as working it. It was no harder or different than any other wood. IMO Last edited by ricky_arthur; 03-02-2013 at 06:00 PM. |

Rick,
I've used wenge only once, but have used lots walnut and oak on woodworking projects. I'd compare it favorably to walnut, it sculpted similarly. Full disclosure, I've made only 2 wood knife handles, one wenge the other walnut but have done lots of woodwoorking on oak and walnut including carving and shaping projects. The lighter grain is softer than the dark grain. I've read of knifemakers who used a wire brush to remove the softer wood and give it an interesting textured look. Barry |

Now would you recommend this material for a knife that make see the inside of a deer or rabbit?
