Halfpenny guards
Hi there!
I am particularly interested on period knives. Tried to find something on the internet about halfpenny guards but very little or nothing I found. Why of the name halfpenny? What period was it mostly used? I appreciate if anyone can help me with that. Thanks Victor |

I don't know much, but here's what I do know...
There is such a thing as a 'full-penny' guard, the difference being the full-penny is centered on the stem, while the half-penny is offset. I supect the name has something to do with this difference, but I'm not sure what... I've mainly seen them on 18th century blades, but I suspect it could go back alot further than that. |
