Being kicked off?
Greetings,
This has happened a couple of time now. The first few I though maybe it was me. When I first open the site I log-on. Sometimes I respond to a post and by the time I finish typing my reply, the system tells me I don't have permission to post a reply because I'm not logged in. It usually happens on longer posts so I wonder if there is some time limit, after which a user is logged off by the system. It is an annoyance. ron |

Hi Ron,
There's no time limit on posts. But I wonder if you log out and clear your cookies, then back in, if this might correct the issue. __________________ Alex Whetsell [======]~~~~~~~> Atlantavirtual.com Atlanta NOC |

Ron - I have experienced the same thing.. I don't recall if on this forum but there are others that have very short time frames.. so much so, that if the time to compose a reply is more than a few minutes I compose the reply in a Word document, then open the reply function, then copy and paste the reply into the Reply box.
Alex - I sure do hate clearing all my cookies... which cookie is specific to KN? I would rather clear just that one. Some forums provide the user the ability to log off and clear the cookie at the same time. |

Clear every one under "knifenetwork.com".

I'll give that a try and see what happens.
Thanks ron |

I was able to make the above short post with no problem. Then since no one responded to the post I tried to reply to yesterday, I went to reply again. I spent maybe 20 minutes composing the post. When I hit the button to add my reply, it said I wasn't logged in and couldn't add the post. This time I copied the post so it was easy to get it back after I logged back in.

What happens when you log in, then let the browser sit idle for 20 minutes? When you click the next link or post, are you asked to log back in?

The users name remains displayed during the time the user constructs his reply. Upon selecting the Submit Reply button, a screen is displayed with three options and you are are advised you need to log in and the user name has been deleted in the field. The browser was idle for not less than ten minutes.

My question wasn't related to making a reply, but an idle log in session.
Q - When you visit the forum, and you let the browser site idle on the site. When you make a new click after a 10-20 minute idle session, are you prompted to re-login? __________________ Alex Whetsell [======]~~~~~~~> Atlantavirtual.com Atlanta NOC |

Ok. I just let it sit idle for 17 minutes. I was logged off somewhere during that time. I think I will see if it happens after 10 minutes after I finish posting this.
I do appreciate your work to figure out this issue and everything the admins do to keep the site up. ron Edited To add that after 10 minutes I was able to edit my post without having to login again. Last edited by son_of_bluegras; 01-21-2011 at 04:49 PM. |

Ron,
Randy sent me a detailed analysis of the error loop and it gave me an idea. 1) Make sure you have "Remember Me" checked. 2) Check your browser settings to make sure you are "not" blocking cookies. I think this will solve it... but, please verify. Thanks again for the assist, Randy!!! __________________ Alex Whetsell [======]~~~~~~~> Atlantavirtual.com Atlanta NOC |

I will try that. I don't often make long posts, so if you don't hear anything, assume it is working.
Thank you again. ron |

Ok. I just logged in with "remember me" checked (not something I used to do) and composed a long post. I did not have to log back in.
Again thank you. ron |

Thank you, Ron! I'm glad it got it figured out.
Randy is the one that deserves the credit. He ran the tests in his browser and was able to detect where the problem was occurring. __________________ Alex Whetsell [======]~~~~~~~> Atlantavirtual.com Atlanta NOC |
